1st and 2nd grade students create a classroom economy as they buy and sell goods from their small businesses; 4th graders create diagrams of triangles, working in groups to construct the relationships between the length of a side and the angles. Kindergarten students find patterns in the calendar during their morning meetings.
The mathematics program at the school begins with concept development, continues with the students developing and testing mathematical theories, and provides for plenty of practice to strengthen skills. The goal for each unit is for the students to apply the lesson to real world situations. Teachers combine projects, hands-on activities, on-line practice and direct instruction that engages students and builds mathematical thinking.
